About SafePlate

    Jersey's independent dietary-needs menu directory

    What is SafePlate?

SafePlate is a free, independent directory of menu items that cater to specific dietary needs across restaurants, cafés, and bakeries in Jersey, Channel Islands. Whether you eat gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, or vegetarian, we show you exactly what each venue offers — including which dishes suit your diet as standard and which can be adapted on request — so you can eat out with confidence, whatever your requirements.

    Dietary needs we cover

SafePlate started as a gluten-free guide, but we have grown to support a much wider range of diners. Every venue listing highlights options across four core dietary needs:

    Gluten-free & coeliac

Fully gluten-free dishes and items with no gluten-containing ingredients, clearly distinguished so coeliacs can choose safely.

    Dairy-free

Dishes free from milk, butter, cream, and other dairy — ideal for lactose intolerance and dairy allergies.

    Vegan

Dishes made entirely without animal products, so plant-based diners can see their options at a glance.

    Vegetarian

Meat-free and fish-free dishes for vegetarians dining out with friends and family.

    How it works

    Browse

Search by venue name, cuisine, or dietary need. Filter by course, meal time, and allergen requirements.

    Verify

Every menu item is independently checked. We clearly mark dietary details — including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and vegetarian.

    Eat safely

Walk into a venue knowing exactly what your options are — no awkward guessing or lengthy conversations needed.

    Stay current

Menus change. We flag items that have not been reviewed recently and work with venues to keep listings up to date.

    How we gather our data

    1

    Menu collection

We collect menu information directly from venue websites, social media, and by contacting venues. We import this into our database and tag each dish by course, meal time, and dietary suitability — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and vegetarian.

    2

    Venue owner review

Each venue receives a private link to review their listing. They can confirm items, flag ones that have changed, and add missing dishes. This keeps the directory grounded in what venues actually serve today.

    3

    Independent review

Every menu item undergoes a second, independent review by our team before it is marked as fully verified. This four-eyes process catches inconsistencies and ensures accuracy.

    4

    Ongoing maintenance

We track how long since each venue's data was last confirmed. Venues with older data are flagged for re-confirmation, and we periodically reach out to owners to refresh their listings.

    What the badges mean

    GF

    Fully gluten-free

The dish is prepared without gluten-containing ingredients. May still be prepared in a kitchen that handles gluten.

    NGCI

    No gluten-containing ingredients

The dish does not contain wheat, barley, rye, or other gluten sources in its ingredients. Always confirm with the venue if you have coeliac disease.

    GF option

    Gluten-free option

The dish can be made gluten-free on request — for example, with gluten-free bread or a substituted sauce.

    DF

    Dairy-free

The dish contains no milk, butter, cream, or other dairy ingredients — or can be made dairy-free on request.

    VG

    Vegan

The dish contains no animal products at all — no meat, fish, dairy, eggs, or honey. Some can be made vegan on request.

    V

    Vegetarian

The dish contains no meat or fish. Vegetarian dishes may still contain dairy or eggs.

    Adaptable options

Many dishes can be tailored to your needs on request. Where a venue tells us a dish can be made to suit a diet, we mark it as an option so you know to ask.

    Always free to use

SafePlate is and always will be free for diners. There are no subscriptions or premium tiers. We believe everyone deserves easy access to safe dining information. Venues are listed at no cost and can update their menus any time.

How often is the data updated?

    • New venues and menu items are added continuously as we discover and verify them.
    • Venues receive monthly reminders to review and confirm their listings.
    • We check menu data with venues every 6 months to confirm it is still accurate, and flag listings that need re-verification.
    • If you spot something wrong, you can report it directly from any menu listing. We investigate every report.

    Who is SafePlate for?

SafePlate was built for anyone in Jersey with a dietary need — whether you have coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance, follow a dairy-free diet, or eat vegan or vegetarian. It is also for the friends, family, and colleagues who want to pick a restaurant where everyone can eat safely and confidently.
